Miguel’s Dad in Cobra Kai is played by actor Paul Walter Hauser. In Season 2, Hauser’s character is introduced as Frank (first name Hector). He is portrayed as a hardworking, single father trying to raise Miguel while also dealing with his own personal demons.
Frank is immediately revealed to be an alcoholic, who struggled to make ends meet while holding a 9-5 job. He is shown to be distant and uninvolved in Miguel’s life, which leads to some tension. It is later revealed that Frank is estranged from Miguel’s mother and he never made any attempts to reunite, unless to use her for his own personal benefit.
Although, Frank does eventually reveal that he cares for Miguel and that he hopes that he will be able to turn Miguel’s life around. He also stands up for Miguel with his ex-wife during an argument and tries to push for Miguel to have the best future possible.
Hauser’s portrayal of Frank is a powerful one that brings out both the good and bad sides of the character. He conveys the struggles of a single father who is trying to stay sober, while at the same time reaching out to the son he is estranged from. In the end, his attempt to change is what helps bring Miguel back to the Cobra Kai dojo in the second season.
