Morbius is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is a scientist turned vampire whose cross-species transformation as a result of a biochemistry experiment gone wrong has turned him into a "living vampire".
Michael Morbius was born in Greece and was an exceptionally brilliant scientist despite his young age. However, his life would take a sharp turn one fateful night when he was conducting a biochemistry experiment to cure himself of a blood condition. Instead, the experiment granted him vampiric powers, including enhanced strength, reflexes, and a childlike hunger for blood.
Though initially hesitant, Morbius has since embraced his newfound powers, using them to help his peers and protect those in need from supernatural and super-powered threats. He has also tried to use his great intellect to find a cure for himself, though he has yet to find a successful formula. Despite his best efforts, Morbius is still a vampire, and will occasionally struggle to resist his primal urges.
Over the years, Morbius has found himself acting as both an ally and a foe to other characters in the Marvel universe. As an ally, he has partnered with Spider-Man, Blade, Moon Knight, and other superheroes to take on super villains. However, his powers have also been used to threaten those whom he befriends, such as the Living Vampire’s turn as an antagonist during the Marvel Knights Spider-Man storyline.
Though his powers may have created a difficult path for Morbius to navigate, they have also allowed him to live forever and make an impact on the Marvel universe. As such, Morbius has become a fan-favorite character and has enjoyed his own series of comic books and film adaptations.
