The ten dollar bill is one of the most widely circulated bills in circulation, with many people using it on a daily basis. As such, many people are curious about who is on the front of the bill.
The answer is Alexander Hamilton, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America. He was a statesman, political philosopher, lawyer, military commander, and economist whose vision helped shape the course of the United States. He was an active participant in the American Revolution and was the nation’s first Secretary of the Treasury. He is best known for his role in establishing a strong national government and a financial system that remains in use to this day.
Hamilton was born in the British West Indies in 1755 and immigrated to the United States in 1772. He received his education at King’s College, now known as Columbia University, and very quickly became politically active. He wrote some of the most influential pamphlets of the American Revolution and was an early believer in the inevitable formation of a strong centralized government. After the war ended, Hamilton worked with the other Founding Fathers on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. He later founded the Federalist Party and served as the country’s first Secretary of the Treasury from 1789 to 1795.
Though he died young (at the age of 47 due to a duel with Aaron Burr), Hamilton left a lasting legacy. He is remembered for advocating for a strong centralized government and a functioning financial system, both of which are still in use to this day. As such, it is fitting that he was chosen to be honored with his image on the ten dollar bill.
