Prometheus is a titan in Ancient Greek mythology. He is best known for being the creator of humanity, and for his example of bringing fire to mankind.

Prometheus was a Titan, the son of Iapetus and Clymene. He was a powerful figure, one of the first beings born from the gods. As a son of the gods, he was able to accomplish great deeds, such as the creation of man. According to Greek mythology, Prometheus molded man out of clay and gave him life.

Prometheus’s name means “forethought” and was fitting to his actions—he was a brilliant and wise figure who could see the future and believed in justice, intellect and progress. He had a close relationship with Zeus, the king of the gods, which allowed him to perform some of his heroic acts.

One of Prometheus’s most famous accomplishments was stealing fire from Zeus and giving it to mankind. Fire was necessary for mankind to survive, as it was used for cooking, heating, and for warmth. Fire was also necessary for the development of civilization. But Zeus refused to allow man to have fire, so Prometheus boldly stole it from Zeus’ altar and brought it to mankind. For his courageous deed, Zeus placed him into eternal punishment by having an eagle come to feast on his liver each day.

Since then, Prometheus has been seen as a symbol of transformation and progress. As a hero, he overcame the tyranny of the gods for the benefit of mankind. His legacy is still felt today, as his story is remembered and celebrated in literature, poetry, and film.
