Saweetie, born Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper, is an American rapper from San Francisco, California. She is best known for her singles "My Type" and "Tap In", which have charted on the Billboard Hot 100. Saweetie rose to prominence in 2018 when her song "ICY GRL" went viral.
Saweetie began writing and recording music at the age of 14, and her work has been described as a mix of hip-hop, R&B and pop. She released her debut single "ICY GRL" in 2017, with the music video amassing millions of views. The success of the video propelled Saweetie’s career and she released her debut EP High Maintenance in March 2018, featuring the singles "My Type" and "Pissed". Both tracks charted in the US and UK, with the former entering the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching the top 40 in the UK.
In 2019, Saweetie released her debut studio album, Icys Pieces, and the remix single "My Type (Remix)" featuring Jhene Aiko and City Girls. That same year she was featured on the song "Best Friend" with Doja Cat, which peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2020, Saweetie released her widely popular single "Tap In" which went certified gold in the United States. This single propelled her career to new heights and subsequently Saweetie has released several singles, all of which have charted.
Saweetie has been credited for bringing new life to female rap, which has led to critical acclaim for her discography. She has collaborated with several major artists in the music industry, some of which include, Drake, Tyga, Normani, G-Eazy. Apart from music, Saweetie is also well known for her fashion sense and versatility. She created her own clothing line, PrettyLittleThing, in 2020 and is also very active in her philanthropic work and activism, which includes supporting female-oriented projects.
