Sia is an Australian singer and songwriter who has achieved massive success over the past decade both as a solo artist and a sought-after collaborator. Born on December 18, 1975 in Adelaide, South Australia, Sia began performing as a child and eventually signed a record deal in 1997 with an Australian label. Her first albums, Only See and Healing Is Difficult, featured inventive and otherworldly music, and solidified her as a unique and cutting-edge artist.
Since then, Sia has gone on to become a powerhouse in the music industry. Her third studio album, Colour the Small One, was certified Gold in the United Kingdom and Australia, with number one landing on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart in 2008. Throughout 2009, Sia toured the US and Europe, and her singles—including “Buttons” and “Day Too Soon”—both achieved respectable chart placements in the US and UK.
Sia is perhaps best known for her solo career and for her collaborations with big-name musicians like David Guetta, Eminem, Flo Rida, and Kanye West. She is renowned for her belting vocals, powerful stage presence, and thought-provoking lyrics, and has been a featured vocalist on many hit singles. Examples of recent collaborations include “Chandelier” (2013), “Elastic Heart” (2013), and “The Greatest” (2016), all of which made it to the top of the music charts.
In addition to her successes in the music industry, Sia has become a vocal LGBT advocate and a spokesperson for a number of social justice causes. She has also released a memoir entitled On the Record and written a number of movie and television scores, including Sia’s 2014 feature film debut “1000 Forms of Fear.”
In short, Sia is an unstoppable force in the entertainment industry, and her influence and energy can be felt in the way music and popular culture intertwine.
