The blonde in the Verizon commercial is Jessica Pimentel, an American actress and musician most widely known for her roles as Maria Ruiz in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, and as Aleida Diaz on the fifth season of the Fox series Prison Break.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Pimentel is of Puerto Rican heritage, and is a graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School. She has been acting since the mid 2000s, when she made her debut in the independent film Battling Temptations, followed by appearances in a handful of television series, including NYPD Blue, Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: CI, Life on Mars, and Ugly Betty.
In 2013, Pimentel was cast as Maria Ruiz, a recurring character in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. She was promoted to a series regular for its fifth season, and has since appeared in multiple episodes.
In 2017, Pimentel began appearing in Verizon commercials alongside actor Chris Liu, where she plays a modern-day witch who uses her magical powers to get Verizon’s network coverage at a haunted house. She has since appeared in several other Verizon commercials.
In addition to acting, Pimentel is an accomplished singer/songwriter, and is the lead vocalist and bassist of the metal band Alekhine’s Gun.
Outside of her acting and music career, Pimentel is an active philanthropist, working with the Archangel Ancient Tree Archive, an organization devoted to preserving endangered old-growth trees, and with the non-profit organization You Go Girl, which offers scholarships to underprivileged girls from Latin American countries. She was also a member of the 2018-2019 Equity Luncheon Oral History Project.
