The lead singer of the acclaimed band Journey is Arnel Pineda. Pineda is a Filipino singer and songwriter who was born on September 5th, 1967 in Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines. His parents are Reynaldo Pineda and Emelita Sajonas.
Pineda joined the American rock band Journey in December of 2007 after their original frontman, Steve Perry, had left the group. At the time, he was largely unknown outside of his homeland, yet quickly gained international attention due to his impressive vocal range, style and tone. Pineda’s addition to the band proved fruitful, resulting in Journey’s first top 40 hit in eight years with "After All These Years".
In addition to rising to international fame, Pineda wrote the lyrics and sang lead vocals on a number of Journey’s hit singles, including “Remember Me”, “Any Way You Want It”, and “Faithfully”. He has recorded 4 consecutive studio albums with the band, “Revelation”, “Eclipse”, “Departure” and “Arrival” in 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2016 respectively. Pineda has also appeared in a number of television shows, performing “Don’t Stop Believin’” with the cast of Glee in 2009, and was also featured on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, singing one of Journey’s most popular songs, “Open Arms”.
Pineda is seen as a rock hero, having used his incredible vocal talent to help fuel Journey’s resurgence to fame since his joining the band. The band’s victory was featured in the award-winning documentary “Don’t Stop Believing: Everyman’s Journey” (2012), which won the Audience Award at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.
His remarkable journey has even been immortalized as a bronze statue in his hometown of Sampaloc, Manila- an incredible honor for a man who has used his talent to reach the international stage. Since his addition to Journey, he has been honored as “Male Entertainer of the Year” by the Hollywood quarterly publication, Social Life Magazine in 2009.
