The President of India is Shri Ram Nath Kovind, and he is the 14th President of India. He was sworn into office on July 25, 2017 following his election by the members of the Electoral College.
Kovind was born in Derapur, Kanpur on October 1, 1945, to a family of farmers. He attended Kanpur University and earned a degree in commerce. He then went on to become an advocate of the Supreme Court and practiced law for 16 years.
Prior to his presidency, Kovind has served as the Governor of Bihar for five years. He was also the National Spokesperson for the BJP between 2010 and 2012.
As president, Kovind has launched many initiatives including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan, which provides free healthcare to the economic weaker sections of society, as well as schemes aimed at dealing with agricultural distress and improving the quality of education. He has also given several speeches on the importance of pursuing ethical and moral values in public life. He has also called for responsible governance practices, commitment towards green initiatives and greater transparency in the decision-making process.
Kovind has brought a renewed focus on the government’s outreach to the minorities and vulnerable sections of society. He has also been at the centre of initiatives like Swachh Bharat, affordable housing, defense modernization, modernizing the armed forces, focus on women empowerment, rise of digital India and reviving ancient waterways.
Apart from his official duties, Kovind remains connected to his roots and is a passionate wildlife photographer. He believes in promoting India’s traditional values and encouraging youth initiatives.
