Dwayne Douglas Johnson, better known as the Rock, is a famous actor and former professional wrestler who is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most popular athletes of all time.
Born on May 2nd, 1972, Dwayne Johnson is of Black Nova Scotian, Samoan, and African-American descent. He grew up in a household that celebrated wrestling and entertainment. Dwayne’s father, Rocky Johnson, was a well-known professional wrestler and his cousin, The Wild Samoans, were both famous in the world of wrestling in the ’70s and ’80s.
The Rock began his career in professional wrestling after meeting his father’s wrestling mentor, "High Chief" Peter Maivia. After graduating high school, Dwayne began training with his father intently in preparation for his debut in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).
He made an immediate impact in the WWF, establishing himself as one of the most popular wrestlers. His signature finishing move, the Rock Bottom, and his trademark catchphrase, "Do you smell what the Rock is cooking?," remain legendary to this day.
In 2000, The Rock retired from professional wrestling and transitioned to acting, starring in the highly praised film The Mummy Returns. He later starred in The Scorpion King, billed as the first leading role for a wrestler in a major motion picture. Since then, Dwayne Johnson has become one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, often appearing in popular action films as well as family-oriented films like The Game Plan and Moana. He has also had several starring roles in television series such as Ballers and the reality competition series The Hero.
Outside of his acting and wrestling career, Dwayne Johnson is also a devoted philanthropist and a licensed pilot. He actively supports several nonprofit organizations and charities and is known for his philanthropy.
