Tom Riddle is a fictional character from J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. He is the main antagonist of the story and is a powerful dark wizard, who is portrayed as a cunning and ambitious young man with a talent for magic and manipulation.
Tom Marvolo Riddle was born in 1926 to a Muggle Tom Riddle Sr. and a witch, Merope Gaunt. He was a half-blood wizard, the only son of his father, hence one of the few purely male-line heirs of Salazar Slytherin. He had two older maternal half-siblings, but they were squibs and hence had no magical powers.
Riddle attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and found to have a talent for dark magic and charms. He dominated his housemates, winning both the House cup and the Triwizard tournament. After leaving Hogwarts, Riddle initially went by the name Lord Voldemort, which soon inspired fear and terror in the wizarding world for his powers and deeds.
Riddle often uses non-verbal spells and other charm works. He is able to perform the Cruciatus Curse, along with other Unforgivable Curses. He also has a powerful ability of Occlumency, which allows him to block others from reading his thoughts.
During his lifetime, Riddle’s ambitions and power-hungry nature led him to corrupt a number of powerful magical artifacts, as well as creating an army of dark wizards and followers, the Death Eaters. He also took part in attacks and murders of Muggles and other witches and wizards, and is seen as one of the most malicious dark wizards of all time.
