On Memorial Day 2020, the small town of Meadowdale was rocked by the unsolved murder of one of its beloved residents, 53-year-old Buddy McCutcheon.
Buddy was a fixture in his community near Asheville, North Carolina and was well-known for his generous nature. He had owned a few businesses in the area and was the type of person who enjoyed helping out those less fortunate. Sadly, throughout his life, he experienced his fair share of tragedy. He had been widowed twice, losing his partner of thirty-five years to cancer just last year. Now, four months later, he was gone without a trace, leaving his friends and family desperate for answers.
Initial investigations into the case didn’t offer much hope of a resolution. There was no sign of forced entry, and nothing was taken from Buddy’s house. In fact, the only clue investigators had was a bloody footprint which was identified as belonging to a woman in her twenties. This seemed to be the only hard evidence in the case, and the police had hoped to interview her in the hopes of finding out what happened.
Unfortunately, their investigation took a dramatic turn when the suspect was found dead in a nearby motel a few days later. She had committed suicide, and with her death, any knowledge of what happened to Buddy died with her.
Now, more than a year later, the mystery of who killed Buddy McCutcheon remains unsolved. It’s disheartening that so much time has gone by and the case is still a cold one. However, friends and family of Buddy still hold out hope that one day they’ll get the answers they deserve. Until then, the memory of Buddy, and the mystery surrounding his death, will live on.
