On July 4th of 2016, Riverdale High School student Jason Blossom was found dead in Sweetwater River, shot in the head. His murder has been a major mystery of the TV show Riverdale, with the audience being given small snippets of evidence over the last three seasons. But who killed Jason?
While no culprit has been confirmed, there are several possible suspects on the list. First, Jason’s father, Claudius Blossom, is a major suspect. He was the one who reported Jason missing, but he was also shown to have a strained relationship with his son. Before the murder, he was seen standing beside the Blossom Maple farm with a gun, seemingly scrounging together cash and looking around in a suspicious manner. It is possible that he could have been involved in Jason’s murder since he had given him money and was seeking him at the time.
Another possible suspect is Jason’s twin sister Cheryl Blossom. Throughout the show, it was hinted multiple times that her relationship with Jason was far from a loving siblings relationship. In one scene, it was revealed that she was responsible for him flunking a school midterm when she sabotaged his work and in another being, she says that she wishes Jason “would just leave”. It has been theorized by fans of the show that she may have killed Jason out of revenge, creating a situation where his death benefited her.
The last major suspect is Jughead Jones. He was seen helping Jason the night before he died, verbally warning him, “Don’t do it Jase,” before he took off. It has been theorized that Jughead could have worked with Cheryl to carry out the assassination, and he is now protecting her to hide his involvement.
In the end, the nature of the show is that Jason’s murderer is meant to be uncertain. This keeps it interesting, with more twists and turns every season that could lead to determining the true killer.
