The 2011 crime drama movie, The Lincoln Lawyer, starring actor Matthew McConaughey follows the story of a defense attorney who is hired to represent a wealthy client, Louis Roulet, who is accused of attempted murder. Throughout the movie, however, it is revealed to the audience that Roulet is not the real killer and that he was framed.
The movie also presents a side plot regarding the death of Jerry, an ex-convict working as a repo man for the attorney’s office. Throughout the movie, it is unclear as to who killed Jerry until the end of the movie.
The killer is revealed to be the private investigator, Frank Levin. It is revealed that Jerry had learned the truth about the murder and a conversation he had with Frank ended with him being shot in the back.
The motive for killing Jerry is, of course, to stop him from revealing the truth and to prevent Roulet from going to prison. Although Frank eventually confesses, he is only sentenced to 5 years due to Roulet’s influence.
The death of Jerry creates a sense of truth and realness to the movie, of which is often lacking in Hollywood thrillers, and shows that no matter the amount of money or power someone has, justice will always prevail.
