When Tanjiro Kamado, the protagonist of the anime series Demon Slayer, sets out to find the demon who murdered his family, he likely never expected to uncover a shocking conspiracy that had been thousands of years in the making.
It is revealed in the series that the demon responsible for the massacre at Tanjiro’s home was Muzan Kibutsuji, a powerful and ancient demon who had been preying on humanity since the dawn of time, subsisting on the blood of humans to sustain his own existence.
Though Muzan had personally murdered many people and creatures in his quest to remain on top of the demon food chain, it was revealed that he was in fact partially responsible for the death of Tanjiro’s family as well. This is because Muzan had corrupted the mind of a human into opening the portal between the human world and the demon realm, which allowed various demons to escape into the human world and wreak havoc. One of these escaped demons happened to be the one who killed Tanjiro’s family.
It is only with the collective determination of Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps that Muzan is eventually captured and defeated. After a long battle and facing the wrath of the entire human world, Muzan is eventually defeated when Tanjiro impales him with a blade made of sunlight, proving that courage may indeed be stronger than hatred.
With his death and the collapse of the demon realm, Tanjiro and his friends are able to restore peace to the world and give closure to the victims of Muzan’s thousand year reign. The fate of Tanjiro’s family, though tragic, serves as a testament to the fact that not even the most powerful of foes can stand against the strength of conviction and unity.
