Who made YouTube? YouTube was created in February of 2005 by former Paypal employees, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim.
The site was initially a way for them to share videos from a trip to the San Diego Zoo, but it quickly grew into a much larger platform.
The idea for YouTube came about as a result of a series of conversations about how the then-new video-sharing systems, such as Bittorrent, could be improved upon. The founders thought that there wasn’t a good video-sharing platform, and they decided to create one.
After a few months, they had the first version of YouTube up and running. They initially shared the site with family, friends and co-workers, and it slowly grew in popularity.
The initial response to YouTube was overwhelming, and it quickly became a hugely popular platform. By 2008, YouTube had an estimated 100 million users who watched 1 billion videos per day.
Today, YouTube is a global phenomenon and one of the most visited websites in the world. Over 1 billion people watch YouTube videos each month, and it has become the premier platform for everything from citizen journalism to film and music videos.
With YouTube, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim truly changed the way the world consumes media. The site is now worth millions as a result of making it easier for everyone to share, watch and create videos.
