Polestar is the high-performance division of Swedish automaker Volvo, specialized in electric and hybrid cars. Established in 1989 and formally incorporated in 1995, Polestar first developed high performance variants of the Volvo 850 and later the Volvo S60 and Volvo V70 when Volvo introduced a R-Design.
Since then, the company has grown and evolved in a unique way. In 2015, Volvo acquired 100 percent of the company, allowing them to focus on electric and hybrid technology, while expanding their range to performance cars.
Today, Polestar offers an all-electric car – the Polestar 2 – as well as a plug-in hybrid – the Polestar 1. Both cars boast beautiful designs, luxurious interiors and powerful electric engines for everything from daily drives to weekends away.
In 2020, Polestar will also add a limited-edition Polestar Precept to their range, a car that promises to combine high-performance with sustainability, using the latest materials and techniques to help reduce its energy requirements and reduce waste in production.
So, who makes Polestar cars? The answer issimple: Polestar cars are designed, engineered and manufactured by Volvo Cars, using its advanced hybrid and electric technology. This gives drivers access to an all-electric or plug-in hybrid car that’s every bit as luxurious and powerful as it is sustainable.
