Who Owns Bugatti

Bugatti, the French automaker known for its luxurious, powerful, and ultra-exclusive vehicles, is currently owned by the Volkswagen Group, the German automotive multinational. It is the only Volkswagen Group brand to produce cars for luxury and high-performance markets, and its vehicles are some of the most expensive cars in the world.

The first Bugatti car was produced in 1909 by its founder, Ettore Bugatti. It quickly gained a reputation as one of the most stylish and prestigious brands in the automotive industry. In the 1920s, Bugatti earned international acclaim, winning several Grand Prix races and producing some of the most remarkable cars of the era.

Bugatti’s fortunes declined during the Great Depression and its production ceased in 1952 amid financial difficulties. The brand was later acquired by Hispano-Suiza Motors, a Catalan automobile manufacturer, but the company was only able to develop a few prototypes before closing shop in the 1970s.

In the late 1980s, Bugatti was then acquired by Italian car manufacturer Giovanni Romano, who wanted to revive the brand. He opened some limited-edition models, but Romano’s dreams never came to fruition as the company ran into economic troubles in the 1990s.

In 1998, the Volkswagen Group acquired Bugatti with the intent to revitalize the brand for the 21st century. Volkswagen began developing a new generation of Bugatti vehicles, starting with the Veyron in 2005. The Veyron was a huge success and was followed by the Chiron in 2016.

Bugatti is now part of the Volkswagen Group’s portfolio, alongside some of the world’s most successful brands, including Audi, Porsche, Bentley, and Lamborghini. The company’s headquarters are in Molsheim, France, but its cars are designed and built in Italy. Bugatti currently produces limited-edition vehicles, all of which are highly sought-after and exclusive luxury cars.
