Burger King is one of the world’s most popular fast-food restaurants. It’s no surprise, then, that many people are curious about who owns the company behind this iconic burger chain. The answer, today, is that Burger King is owned by an investment firm called 3G Capital.
3G Capital has owned Burger King since 2010, after the firm purchased the restaurant chain from the previous parent company, British-based firm Diageo, for $3.26 billion. Before that, Burger King was owned by a private equity firm named Texas Pacific Group and fast food giant Yum Brands, who had purchased the chain from Diageo in 2002.
The management team for Burger King is led by Jose Cil, who took over as Chief Executive Officer in December 2019. Cil previously served as the CEO of Restaurant Brands International, the parent company of Burger King, Tim Hortons, and Popeyes. The company’s headquarters is based in Miami, Florida.
3G Capital typically invests in large companies, who they then strive to revitalize and grow. This philosophy led Burger King to become a leader in the fast-food industry once again. The company implemented new technology which modernized the brand’s restaurants and drove sales, and expanded their menu items to include healthier options like salads and plant-based burgers.
Today, Burger King is growing at a healthy rate, and the 3G Capital’s investments have allowed the restaurant chain to become more profitable. They now have over 18,000 locations in more than 100 countries, making Burger King one of the most popular fast-food chains in the world.
