Cricket Wireless is a prepaid MVNO that offers low-cost monthly plans and no long-term contracts. The company caters to the budget-conscious customer by keeping prices affordable. The service runs on both AT&T and Verizon’s reliable networks, which help ensure consistent coverage. But who owns Cricket Wireless?
Cricket Wireless is owned by AT&T. AT&T acquired the company in 2014 in a deal that cost the telecommunications giant $1.19 billion. The acquisition officially closed on March 13, 2014. Cricket Wireless is now one of the many subsidiaries in the AT&T empire.
Cricket Wireless is now part of AT&T’s consumer-oriented prepaid lineup alongside the likes of AT&T Prepaid and AIO Wireless. Cricket customers have access to many of the same benefits that come with having an AT&T relationship, such as unlimited access to AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots and a 30-day Network Satisfaction Guarantee.
The acquisition has also enabled Cricket to expand its services and line of phones. Since joining the AT&T family, the prepaid service now carries popular handsets like the Apple iPhones, Samsung Galaxies, and LG G-series. As a result, Cricket Wireless now competes more directly with prepaid staples like Metro by T-Mobile and Boost Mobile.
Cricket Wireless is an excellent option if you want to save money with your cell service. Not only do you get reliable coverage from two of the country’s dominant networks, but you also get to choose from one of the more economical wireless carriers. Plus, with the added backing of AT&T behind it, you can be sure that Cricket is here to stay.
