HBO, which stands for Home Box Office, is an American premium cable television network owned and operated by WarnerMedia. WarnerMedia is a subsidiary of AT&T, the giant telecommunications giant. The network was founded in 1972, and is best known for its selection of TV shows, films, miniseries, and other original programming.
AT&T gained control of HBO when it acquired Time Warner Inc. in 2018. Time Warner had purchased HBO in 1989, at the time making it a subsidiary of the larger company. Since the acquisition of Time Warner, AT&T has maintained control of HBO.
In addition to its cable network, HBO also has several sections outside of the US, such as in the United Kingdom, and in Asia. Each of these sections is also owned and operated by AT&T.
HBO is one of the largest premium cable television networks in the world, and its parent company AT&T makes billions of dollars in profits each year due to its ownership of the network and its other affiliates. HBO is well-known for its lineup of popular shows and films, including shows such as Game of Thrones and Big Little Lies. In addition, its library of past classics such as The Sopranos, True Blood, and Sex and the City are beloved by fans.
