Myspace was founded by Chris DeWolfe, Tom Anderson, and Aber Whitcomb in 2003 as a social networking platform. After going through several acquisitions and rebranding, Myspace is now owned by media giant Max Borges Agency.
Max Borges Agency acquired the multimedia entity in August 2020, along with rights to the Myspace brand, website, and social media accounts. Notably, Max Borges Agency was not a publicly traded company prior to the acquisition, but rather a privately held, family-owned business. Antonio and Max Borges, the father and son duo who founded Max Borges Agency, served as the main orchestrators behind the acquisition.
Initiated back in November 2019, the sales negotiations mainly stemmed from the desire of the previous Myspace owners, Justin Timberlake and Tim and Chris Vanderhook, to cash out of their 85% stake in the company. Sources close the company estimated the overall cost of the transaction to be around $50 million.
Since their acquisition of Myspace, Max Borges Agency has been busy revamping the brand, redesigning the website and fine-tuning their product offering. Under the attentive guidance of the Borges duo and through a series of innovative rebranding efforts, Myspace is now steaming ahead toward digital dominance, with more and more people using the platform for a variety of different things.
From providing a hub for customers and businesses to collaborate, to promoting and marketing all sorts of creative endeavors and projects, Myspace is slowly emerging itself back into the cultural mainstream and the tech world, becoming a major player among the social media elite.
As the current owners of Myspace, Max Borges Agency has interconnected the past, present, and future of the icon, infusing the brand with the firm’s ambition, cutting-edge vision, and entrepreneurial spirit. With the Borges family at the helm and the innovative strategies of Max Borges Agency, the future for Myspace looks more and more promising.
