SpaceX, the space exploration company founded by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, is the world’s most prominent commercial space exploration company. The company has made history by launching several successful and groundbreaking missions to space, including delivering astronauts to the International Space Station for NASA.
In terms of ownership, Elon Musk is the primary founder of SpaceX and currently serves as both the CEO and Chairman of the Board. As of 2020, Musk owns 54% of the stock. In addition to Musk, venture capital firms such as Founders Fund, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Valor Equity Partners also have ownership stakes in the company, as do early employees and private investors.
In addition to these primary shareholders, SpaceX’s executive team and board of directors also hold stock in the company. Members of the executive team, such as President and COO Gwynne Shotwell, CFO Bret Johnsen and CTO Tom Mueller, all hold ownership stakes in SpaceX as well.
SpaceX has grown significantly since its inception in 2002, and its launch capabilities are unmatched in the commercial spaceflight industry. With financial backing from major venture capital firms, private investors and its executive team, SpaceX is poised to continue pushing boundaries and making history in the years to come.
