The 6666 Ranch has long been part of the legendary Texas ranching heritage. It is one of the largest working ranches in the United States, and a historic and iconic symbol of the Lone Star State. The sprawling Ranch and its land spread across four counties in Texas, including King, Crosby, Garza, and Borden.
But the real mystery behind the 6666 Ranch involves who actually owns the property. Reports trace the land back to the ownership of John Arnot, a Scotsman who moved to Texas in the late 1800s. In the 1920s, Arnot’s grandson, Jim Simms, inherited the property and went on to expand the ranch. Simms also famously registered the 6666 brand, which is still in use today.
By the 1950s, most of Texas’s vast ranchland had been bought up by large corporations, but the 6666 Ranch still remained under the control of the Simms family. Eventually, the majority of the land ended up in the hands of Simms’ granddaughter, Anne Windfohr Marion, who is the current owner of the 6666 Ranch.
Today, Marion and her family own just shy of 300,000 acres of deeded and leased land, and all of the cattle, horses, and other animals that live there. The 6666 Ranch is now known as the “Crown Jewel” of Texas and is home to some of the finest livestock and equestrian programs in the world. It’s a remarkable legacy that spans several generations, and is still thriving today.
