The Harry Potter franchise has been incredibly successful, captivating audiences of all ages since its initial release in 2001. Actor Daniel Radcliffe has come to embody the beloved character of Harry Potter over the course of his 8-film run, but it wasn’t always easy for the young actor.
Daniel Radcliffe was just 12 years old when he was cast as the titular character in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. He wasn’t the only star-in-the-making to audition for the role of the young wizard; they scoured the UK to find the precocious talent to take on the role. Radcliffe ultimately won out and would go on to star in all 8 of the Potter films over the course of 10 years.
Radcliffe’s performance as the protagonist in the Harry Potter series brought him both critical acclaim as well as a huge fan base. He received numerous awards for his work in the franchise, including an Emmy for The Story of the Making of Harry Potter, a Saturn Award for The Chamber of Secrets, and a Young Artist Award for The Philosopher’s Stone.
Although Radcliffe acted in all 8 of the Harry Potter films, there were other actors who took on roles in the franchise. Emma Watson played Hermione Granger, Rupert Grint played Ron Weasley, and seven different actors played various roles as the various incarnations of Voldemort.
