The character of Michael Myers has been a fan favorite among horror fans since his introduction in John Carpenter’s 1978 film "Halloween". Since then, the character has appeared in several sequels and remakes, and has been played by multiple actors.
The original Michael Myers was portrayed by two actors. Nick Castle and Tony Moran both played the role in the original film. Nick Castle served as stuntman as well as providing motion capture for the iconic mask-wearing killer. Meanwhile, Tony Moran was credited as the unmasked version of Myers, appearing briefly near the finale of the film.
For the 1981 sequel, "Halloween II", the character of Michael Myers was once again played by Nick Castle. However, Castle’s stuntwork was supplemented by Dick Warlock, who provided stunt coordination and stunt doubling.
In 1998, a remake of the original film starring Jamie Lee Curtis was released. In this version, Michael Myers was once again played by two actors: Brad Loree and Chris Durand. Brad Loree provided the on-screen performance and stunt coordination whilst Chris Durand acted as a stuntman in the film’s more dangerous sequences.
In the 2007 sequel "Halloween", Michael Myers was played by Tyler Mane. Mane previously worked as a professional wrestler, and his physicality was the perfect fit for the iconic character. He also provided motion capture for the iconic mask.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II then took on the role in 2018’s "Halloween". The actor motion-captured and performed as the on-screen Michael Myers, taking up the reigns from his predecessors.
The various iterations of Michael Myers from across the franchise have become a staple of the horror genre. Iconic performances from the cast of actors have inspired and terrified generations of fans, cementing the character’s importance in the horror world.
