The new 2021 Batman movie has tapped actress Zoë Kravitz to play the iconic comic character Catwoman in a brand new reboot. Kravitz is no stranger to challenging and complex roles as she has notably starred in Big Little Lies and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The star made her debut as Selina Kyle (Catwoman’s real name) in The Dark Knight Rises played by Anne Hathaway, but Kravitz hopes to make a big break from that popular version in her own unique adaptation. She has been in talks to star in the role for quite some time, but the official announcement was made earlier this year.
The new Batman movie will be directed by Matt Reeves, who recently revealed that Kravitz’s Catwoman would be “a very different kind of Catwoman.” The film is set to follow Bruce Wayne during his formative years as he develops into the Dark Knight justice crusader of Gotham City.
Though specifics of the plot have been kept under wraps, Kravitz said that she has been “tinkering on ideas” for the movie with Reeves. Production is supposed to begin sometime this year.
Fans of Catwoman have been eager to see her character reimagined by Kravitz in a way that audiences haven’t seen before. Though Batman has had several iterations throughout the years, Catwoman has not had nearly as much attention. This movie could be an opportunity for Kravitz to give the character new life through a unique and exciting interpretation.
