in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
After years of rumors and speculation, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans can finally rejoice: a live-action Kate Bishop has finally been cast! Hailee Steinfeld has officially been cast as the iconic Hawkeye character in the upcoming Disney+ series titled Hawkeye.
Back in August, The Hollywood Reporter first announced that Steinfeld had been cast in the leading role as Kate Bishop, a character first introduced to the Marvel Comics Universe in the 2005 comic Young Avengers #1 written by Allan Heinberg and drawn by Jim Cheung.
Kate Bishop first joined the comics universe as a protégé of Clint Barton, the first Hawkeye, and was an original member of the Young Avengers. Her backstory states that she lost her family at a young age after her father, a corrupt entrepreneur, was exposed by Daredevil. She became a vigilante act-alike and moved to New York attempting to do connections with the family from Avengers to receive advice from them.
In the upcoming Disney+ series, Hawkeye, Steinfeld will play a more mature version of the character who takes on the mantle of the titular superhero. As a highly-skilled master archer, Kate Bishop is said to be the focus of the series, with the plot centering on her attempting to protect New York City from crime and villainy.
Fans will likely see Steinfeld’s take on the character first in the upcoming third installment of the Disney+ original movie series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The movie, which is scheduled to hit screens in 2021, will follow Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop as she joins forces with the Avengers in their battle against crime and villains.
Steinfeld is no stranger to comic book adaptations, having played Emily Weisberg in the 2019 adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book series, The Babysitter. With her impressive resume, fans are eagerly awaiting her take on Kate Bishop and what the character will bring to screen in the upcoming Hawkeye series.
