Who Plays Rip On Yellowstone

Rip Wheeler, a rugged and loyal ranch hand at the Dutton Ranch, is one of the primary characters on Paramount Network’s drama series, Yellowstone. He is portrayed by actor Cole Hauser and serves as the loyal right-hand man of John Dutton.

Rip is a former U.S. Marine and an experienced cowboy, as well as a formidable fighter and an expert tracker with an uncanny ability to read people. He sees himself as John Dutton’s protector and is often tasked with breaking up fights, maintaining order on the ranch, and confronting some of the ranch’s adversaries. His laconic willingness to take matters into his own hands, even when it means breaking the law, often clashes with John’s moral compass and perspective on justice.

At the same time, Rip has a softer side, as seen in his relationship with his love interest, Beth. He has a strong family history from his father, who was a ranch hand in the Dutton family for years. His lifelong connection to the Dutton’s makes him a reliable confidante for John, since Rip’s loyalty is unwavering.

Cole Hauser has received positive reviews for his role as Rip. Of his character, Hauser said “…Rip is this classic Western archetype. He’s an Old West cowboy, a loner for the most part. He’s been a marine, he’s a great fighter, he’s a great rider. I think what makes him special is that he truly is loyal to the Duttons in this particular time. He’s a very multifaceted character”.

Hauser has appeared in numerous films and television series, including Pitch Black, Hart’s War, and Rogue. He has been nominated for a Golden Globe and has won a Screen Actors Guild Award. He is also the son of actor Wings Hauser.
