Voldemort is one of the primary antagonists of the "Harry Potter" series by J.K. Rowling. The character is widely considered to be one of the most iconic film villains in history, and his presence has been felt in every film in the series. The character was originally played by British actor Richard Bremmer in the first film "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone".
In the first two films, Bremmer’s portrayal of Voldemort was not seen as he appeared in various forms – a man’s face with a hood, a greyish, white smoky ghost, a dark pallid face and a snake. In the third film of the series, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", Bremmer was replaced by stuntman David Holmes due to scheduling conflicts.
In the fourth film "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", the role of Voldemort was recast, with British actor Ralph Fiennes taking over. Fiennes is most known for his roles as Hades in "Clash of the Titans", Lord Voldemort in "Harry Potter" and a benevolent M in the James Bond film franchise, beginning with "Skyfall".
Fiennes played Voldemort throughout the remainder of the series and received mostly positive reviews for his performance. His portrayal was seen as more intimidating and intense than the previous actors. In the eighth and final film, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2", Fiennes’s portrayal of Voldemort was credited as making the character more sympathetic and understandable as he attempts to regain his power.
Overall, Richard Bremmer, David Holmes and Ralph Fiennes have all played the iconic role of Lord Voldemort throughout the "Harry Potter" franchise and their performances will go down in movies history.
