the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog is one of gaming’s most iconic characters, beloved by fans the world over. He has starred in dozens of games and even his own feature film, and he’s become one of the most recognizable faces in gaming. He is also one of the few characters with iconic enough standing to appear in multiple forms of media, including movies, games, and shows.
The lovable anthropomorphic hedgehog has been voiced by many actors throughout the years in different forms of media. One of the most iconic voice actors to voice Sonic was Jaleel White, best known for his role of Steve Urkel from Family Matters. White took over the role of Sonic from the late Deem Bristow in 1999 and voiced the blue blur through the 2000s, from Sonic Adventure to Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). He reprised the role for a few re-releases of the classic games and for a brief appearance in the first Wreck-It Ralph movie.
Another iconic voice of Sonic is Ryan Drummond — the first actor to portray the supersonic hedgehog in 3D. Drummond voiced Sonic in the Dreamcast releases of Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, and Shadow the Hedgehog. He also lent his voice to Sonic in an episode of the 2004 anime series Sonic X.
Currently, the main actor behind the iconic quills is Roger Craig Smith. Smith began his tenure as the voice of Sonic in 2010, with the release of Sonic Free Riders on the Xbox 360, and has since lent his voice to dozens of games, cartoons, and even the movie.
So, to answer the question of who voices Sonic the Hedgehog, there have been multiple actors to portray the blue blur throughout the years, all of whom have shaped the character into the icon we know and love today.
