The 43rd President of the United States was George W. Bush, who served from 2001 to 2009. George W. Bush is a member of the Republican Party and is the son of the 41st President of the United States, George H.W. Bush.

Born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1946, George W. Bush graduated from Yale University in 1968 and attended Harvard Business School before entering the oil business in the west Texas city of Midland. He joined the Texas Air National Guard in 1968 and served from 1973 to 1974 before leaving the military in 1974.

George W. Bush’s political career began in 1994 when he was elected Governor of Texas. He quickly became known as a "compassionate conservative," advocating for tax cuts and education reform. During his time as Governor, Bush signed into law a bill that required students to be tested regularly in core subjects, which eventually led to the federal education act known as No Child Left Behind. In 2000, George W. Bush became the Republican presidential nominee, and the following year he was elected President of the United States.

During his 8 years as President, George W. Bush pursued several key initiatives, most notably the War on Terror, which began shortly after the 9/11 attacks, and the 2001 tax cuts. Bush’s tenure also saw the passage of Medicare Part D, which provides prescription drug coverage for seniors and disabled Americans, as well as the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

George W. Bush left office in 2009 when President Barack Obama was sworn in, and he now resides in Dallas, Texas. He is the author of several books, including a memoir titled Decision Points that was published in 2010. Bush has also become a frequent public speaker, promoting causes such as veterans’ health and a cure for cancer.
