In recent years, the media entertainment company Who What Wear has garnered a great deal of controversy as a result of their operations. Who What Wear, founded in 2006 by two former Vogue editors, is an online publication owned by the global marketing company, Clique Brands.
The company is home to a wide range of fashion-related content, including celebrity styling tips, exclusive interviews with fashion influencers, and features covering up-and-coming trends.
Their main source of controversy stems from their use of popular influencers to promote their brand. Who What Wear has been criticized for their lack of diversity in the influencers they select and their failure to give credit to many of them for their work.
The company has been accused of taking advantage of those without much influence and those from diverse backgrounds who may not know of the ways in which their content can be exploited.
Critics have also spoken out about their unfair payment policies which are said to be extremely low for the type of content they produce compared to other similar companies.
To make matters worse, many of the contracts Who What Wear require its influencers to sign are considered to be exploitative with terms that include non-disclosure agreements and clauses which limit the influencer’s ability to renegotiate.
Despite the intense backlash they’ve received, Who What Wear continues to be a well-known fashion publication and a source of inspiration for fashionistas all around the world. However, the controversy surrounding the company is a reminder that fashion industry is still in need of progress in terms of inclusivity and fair business practices.
