The much-hyped title fight for the Triller Fight Club event was held on Sunday night and it was YouTuber Jake Paul who emerged victorious. Paul defeated MMA star and former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, in a surprise win by technical knockout in the second round.
Paul, 24, had only had two professional boxing bouts prior to the fight and went into the contest as the heavy underdog. He stunned many with his success and Woodley was left looking bemused as he was forced to concede to the YouTuber.
The fight started off with Woodley looking to control the bout, while Paul used movements and feints to keep him guessing. Woodley, a veteran of the sport, largely controlled the first round but Paul responded well in the second, taking the centre of the ring and forcing the action. Paul was able to unload a flurry of punches that Woodley could not defend and the referee stepped in to call a stop to the fight after an impressive display of boxing prowess.
Paul’s win can only be seen as a major upset, with many expecting Woodley to use his experience as an elite fighter to dominate the bout. However, Paul was able to keep cool and outsmart Woodley with his technique. After the fight, Paul was seen celebrating with his corner and the Triller Fight Club production staff.
Paul’s victory is an impressive achievement and will certainly establish him as one of the more entertaining fighters on the scene. With more professional bouts in the near future and a growing fan base, it’ll be interesting to see what new heights the YouTuber will be able to achieve in the world of boxing.
