The 23rd-ranked Duke Blue Devils came away with a thrilling road victory against the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday, January 12th. The Blue Devils were led by freshman guard Tre Jones, who posted a career-high 30 points. Jones, who is the younger brother of former ACC Player of the Year Tyus Jones, showcased his strength and athleticism all game, including a crucial and-1 in the closing minutes to help cement the win for Duke.
In addition to Jones’ performance, the Blue Devils were led by senior guard Grayson Allen, who contributed 15 points and four assists in the effort. Allen played a pivotal role in the victory despite struggling from outside, nailing key free throws in the final moments to secure the win.
Although Duke was able to come away with the victory, it was a close one, with Purdue keeping it close to the end. Purdue was led by sophomore guard Carsen Edwards, who finished with a game-high 33 points. Edwards carried the Boilermakers offense all night, and was able to keep it close with his sharp shooting performance.
The Blue Devils would go on to win the game 91-87, cementing their place as a top five team in the nation. It was a crucial road victory for Duke and a reminder to the rest of the NCAA that Duke is still a major powerhouse in college basketball.
