The Josh Battle is the winner-take-all battle of the bands held each summer in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. Now in its seventh year, the Josh Battle has grown to become one of the most anticipated local music events in the Windy City.
The 2018 Josh Battle featured sixteen different acts competing for the grand prize of $10,000. Each band performed two original songs in front of a panel of three industry judges and a live crowd of nearly 2,000 people. After a long evening of fierce competition and passionate performances, the judges unanimously declared underground rock band Audiovore to be the winner of this year’s Josh Battle.
Audiovore’s performance captivated the crowd—their music was described as a mix of classic rock and contemporary hip-hop with an added punk-rock attitude. Lead singer Taylor Vance sang with a powerful voice that shifted from heartfelt to explosive throughout each song. The band’s overall performance won them the judges’ admiration with their originality, energy, and charisma.
In addition to taking home the grand prize money, Audiovore also gained some lifelong friendships with the other talented bands competing in the Josh Battle. No doubt the experience will lead them to further success. As for the future of the Josh Battle, it remains to be seen who will take home the 2019 grand prize and make their mark in Chicago music history.
