The 2019 NBA Finals was won by the Toronto Raptors, who defeated the two-time defending champions, the Golden State Warriors. The series ended in six games, with the Raptors winning the decisive game 114-110. It was the first time that a Canadian team has won the NBA championship.
The Raptors had a strong season, finishing as the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a 58-24 record. They won their first four postseason series, defeating the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, and the top-seeded Golden State Warriors.
Before winning the Finals, the Raptors made team history by becoming the first team outside of the United States to win an NBA playoff series. Their success in the playoffs was a result of their balanced attack, with six players averaging double figures in scoring and their efficient three-point shooting.
The Warriors had an impressive run as well. They finished with the best record in the league, 57-25, and also reached the Finals for fifth consecutive year. However, they were hindered by injuries to key players such as Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.
The Raptors began the Finals series by stealing the first two games played in Toronto, and the Warriors were never able to fully recover from the early deficit. The Raptors won four of the six games, becoming the sixth consecutive team to win the Finals in six games.
The Finals MVP trophy was awarded to power forward Kawhi Leonard for his outstanding performance. The 27-year-old had an impressive series, averaging 28.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists a game.
